Things
Students ABSOLUTELY NEED for World Literature
The following are
ESSENTIAL in class:
·
Books
– bring the book
we’re reading/discussing to class EVERY DAY
·
Pens/pencils
– bring a pen or
pencil to class EVERY DAY
·
Paper
– bring paper to
write on (either loose-leaf or notebook) EVERY DAY
·
Binder/folder
– bring
something to hold handouts EVERY DAY
The following are
ESSENTIAL at home:
·
Working
computer – must
have word processing and Internet access; should have spell/grammar checking
capability
·
Working
printer – must
have INK and PAPER!
Please keep in mind the
following:
·
ALL
WORK MUST BE TYPED –
this means it needs to be word-processed and printed out to hand in.
·
Students
receive ONE “Act of God” pass each semester (which gives them an extra day on an essay or other
major assignment in the event of a crisis beyond their control – i.e. a crashed
computer or a broken printer or no ink/paper to
print). Once the Act of God pass has been
used, NO EXCUSES WILL BE ACCEPTED!
Students experiencing
repeated computer problems need to do one of the following:
·
Get
a new computer and/or printer –
this may sound like an expensive proposition, but students will needs these
essential tools for the rest of their time at QAS (not to mention in
college!).
·
Do
their work at a friend’s house –
this works best if students can find a friend or relative who lives close
enough to make an evening visit possible
·
Do
their work
in school –
students can request library passes for use during scheduled Study Halls; they
can also visit the computer lab during lunch, during free periods, or
before/after school. REMEMBER: the only way to print work on campus is to
send it to the Proud Lion printer (in the Concession Stand) or to the student’s
advisor. Students should allow
ample time for their work to be printed before class (which means the work must
be completed WELL BEFORE THE START OF CLASS).
·
Hand-write
their work –
this is a LAST RESORT measure, since students WILL LOSE POINTS if their work is
not typed. But lost points are much better
than no points at all! If all else
fails, handwritten work is the best plan.
