Happy
New Year!
Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday, and are
looking forward to 2008.
December seems so long ago, but it was a whirlwind of activity. Winter Madness was held on December 7th - all the
winter sports teams were introduced and many students participated in the games
and activities planned for them by the SGA. I had the opportunity to talk with
a few of you on December 11th
during the monthly “Coffee and
Conversation” in Middle Leeland – I hope to see more at our next gathering.
On December 13th, it was
standing room only for the Holiday
Concert and Arts Show. It was a FANTASTIC evening – one of the best shows
since I’ve been at Queen Anne. Your children outdid themselves with their
artwork, their singing, dancing and acting – the Fine Arts Department has
gotten nothing but the highest praise for all the fun people had that evening. (And
a big thank-you to everyone who donated goodies and/or their time to make the
reception possible!) There was a small but enthusiastic turnout for the monthly Diversity Film showing on December
20th : Ms. Holyer and Mr. Fox-Boyd introduced a crowd of mostly
freshmen to the original b/w version of Miracle
on 34th Street, to much applause. The
Christmas door decorating took place between December 10th and 19th; Ms. Howell, Ms.
Mehlin and Mr. McCallam’s advisory groups took 1st, 2nd
and 3rd place – please see the Rogues’ Gallery for photos of these
award-winning doors! Our last day of
school (and what a day it was!) fell on December
21st: highlights included selections from the Holiday Concert
and Arts Show, parties, games, passing out gifts and taking down the door
decorations. Then it was on to Christmas
chapel, with the annual faculty
reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” before finishing up with the
Christmas Song Contest (the 8th
grade took 2nd place and the 6th grade took 3rd!).
And now it’s onward to 2008!
