The Lion’s Mane

Spring 2008

Letter From The Editor

Dear QAS Alumni,

Spring is upon us!  I hope everyone is in good health and good spirits.  This issue of The Lion’s Mane has some good alumni updates as well as some important announcements.  Make sure to check the Upcoming Events section for some good opportunities coming your way at the end of the month.  In addition, the class of 1998 has a reunion coming in June. More information on that can be found in the issue.  For members of the classes of ‘92 and ‘93, a joint reunion is in the works, so keep your eyes peeled for e-mail announcements and mailers in the near future for more information.

As always you can send any news, updates, announcements, pictures, or updated alumni e-mail addresses to qasalumni@queenanne.org.  I wish everyone all the best in all that you do.

Class of 1998 Reunion Coming this Summer!

It has been 10 years and the Class of 1998 is preparing for their 10 Year Reunion in June.  Ten years marks a great time to reconnect with former classmates and relive the days of lip sync contests, soccer games, pep rallies, and headmasters breaks.  The 10 Year Reunion for the Class of 1998 will be held on June 21st 2008, at Leeland Hall on the campus of Queen Anne School.  Please save this date and e-mail the Class of 1998 officers at QAS1998@gmail.com if you haven’t already.  Make sure to include your most recent e-mail address, mailing address, and phone number(s).  Also, don’t hesitate to contact Katy (kmwall01@gmail.com), Angie (angela.a.holland@vanderbilt.edu), or Catherine (catherine.toppin@gmail.com) if you would like to be a part of the planning committee.  See you there!

Andrew Mandela ’05 recently took the lacrosse field for his new school Saint Joseph’s University. He transferred from Drexel University after the fall term. He said he had major butterflies when he took the field for his new team, but quickly settled in to a losing effort against Lehigh University. He played stout defense and had two shots blocked from point blank range. We wish him well in his future endeavors.

Alumni Updates

Julia King ’06 is in her second year at Simmons College in Boston.  She is pursuing a major in Psychobiology and a minor in Business Metrics. Julia enjoys every minute of college whether she is playing basketball for her school or being a part of the Blacks Student Organization and Caribbean Culture Association. She lives only a ten minutes walk to the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabel Stuart Garden Museum is next door. Julia feels that it's a great time to live in Boston and she is taking advantage of as much of it as she can.

Parents of Ginger (Payerle) Reeves ‘81, Lita and Laszlo Payerle, recently sold their family owned restaurant, Toucan Taco in Laurel (formerly the franchise Tippy's), to Ginger.  The Payerles owned the restaurant for 35 years before selling it to her.  Ginger opened under Toucan Taco, LLC, January 29, and is delighted to keep the family business going, not to mention keeping it in the family.

Alumni may remember the days when the Payerles used to cater QAS events by serving a taco bar and Ginger frequently had classmates join her for a meals at the restaurant. Ginger would like everyone to know that Toucan Taco is still open in Laurel, and still in the Payerle family if anyone wants to stop by and say 'hi.'
